The REST Center is the first recovery-based community center in the Lewiston-Auburn area. We are a peer-run community center that is focused and driven through our combined lived experiences, in hopes of offering support to our community. The name of the group comes from the M?ori people, of New Zealand. The word "wairua" {why-ee-doo-ah} translates roughly to 'That which is unique, special, that is contained within', it is often also interchanged as a term for "spirit" or "spirituality" of a person or animal. The M?ori people also have a special term for autism, it is ‘Takiw?tanga’. It is a derivation of: “t?ku/t?na an? takiw?” – “in my/his/her own time and space”. The founders of this group went through the HVN facilitator training over the summer of 2019 with the Western Mass Recovery Learning Community and are excited to bring this group to the Lewiston-auburn area.
